How to Shape Eyebrows

Brows frame every look you'll ever wear — the same makeup with different brows reads completely differently. Shaping is about finding the brow your face already has and refining it, not drawing on a new one.
The three-point mapping method used by every professional takes the guesswork out of where a brow should start, peak, and end.
What you'll need
- A spoolie and a fine brow pencil or powder
- Tweezers (and good light)
- Brow gel to set
Step 1: Map point one — the start
Hold a pencil vertically against the side of your nose: where it crosses the brow is where the brow should begin. Mark it lightly. Hair beyond that toward the nose can go.
Step 2: Map point two — the arch
Angle the pencil from the nostril across the centre of the pupil (looking straight ahead). Where it crosses the brow is the natural peak — the highest point of your arch.
Step 3: Map point three — the tail
Angle the pencil from the nostril past the outer corner of the eye. The brow should end where the pencil crosses. A tail longer than this drags the eye down; shorter looks unfinished.
Step 4: Tweeze only the obvious strays
Clean beneath the mapped line and between the brows — and stop. Over-tweezing the top flattens the natural arch, and brow hair does not always return.
Step 5: Fill in hair-strokes, following growth
With a fine pencil, sketch light strokes in the direction the hair grows: upward at the front, diagonal through the arch, horizontal at the tail. The front should always stay softest.
Step 6: Brush up and set
A spoolie through the brow diffuses the pencil, then gel locks the hairs in place. Brushed-up, softly filled brows look modern; hard outlines age a face instantly.
Pro tips from the chair
- Match brow product to the cool or warm tone of your hair, one shade lighter than the darkest hairs — too dark reads harsh immediately.
- Symmetry note: brows are sisters, not twins. Chasing perfect symmetry with tweezers is how brows get progressively thinner.
- If you've over-tweezed in the past, give brows three full months of growth before reshaping — and map before touching a single hair.
