Makeup Artist in Fes
Bridal, engagement and event makeup in Fes and across Fès-Meknès. The spiritual and craft capital, and the origin of the lebssa fassiya.
Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.
The bridal tradition around Fes
Fès is the source of the lebssa fassiya, the ancestral costume of the city. It is built from silk and brocade with metallic gold and silver embroidery, in deep reds, emeralds and royal blues, and it is among the most heavily worked garments in the Moroccan sequence.
The garment and the parure are already at saturation, so the face is built with restraint. Sculpting stays sharp because reflected light from dense gold flattens everything near it, and the lip stays quiet — a strong lip under a Fassi parure tips the whole look into heavy.
Gold, and what it decides
Fassi work is gold-led, which sets the palette: bronzes, coppers and warm golds accord with it. A face built in cool taupes beside that embroidery reads as a mistake even to someone who cannot name why.
This is the first question worth settling for any booking in Fes, because it decides the entire palette before a single product is chosen. More on the full sequence in the Moroccan bride guide.
What the Fès-Meknès climate does to makeup
Inland and continental — hot, dry summers and genuinely cold winters. Dry heat pulls moisture out fast, so bases are layered over real hydration rather than applied straight onto bare skin.
The general rule holds everywhere in Morocco: set in thin successive passes rather than one heavy layer. Accumulated product slides; product laid down thinly stays. What changes by region is the base underneath it.
Travelling to Fes
About four hours from Casablanca. An early call time usually means travelling the night before.
Bridal bookings include a full trial. For a wedding outside Casablanca the trial is scheduled either on the same trip or in Casablanca beforehand — whichever fits the date better.
