Green makeup looks

A colour look succeeds on commitment. A half-committed colour reads as a mistake rather than as a choice.

Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.

Choose for the light it will be seen in, which is rarely the light you are standing in.

What actually decides it

One deliberate colour, placed properly, with the rest of the face left plain enough that it reads.

Why green specifically. Green is the colour of the traditional henna-night caftan, and it excludes part of the palette outright.

Cool pinks and plums fight it. Coppers, terracottas and golds accord with it, which is also what suits the local skin range.

On Moroccan skin, in a Moroccan climate

Strong colour needs real pigment to register on deeper skin — a sheer wash that reads as bold on fair skin often disappears entirely.

What it will not do

It is not a daily look for most people, and building it as one usually means diluting it until it stops working.
