One deliberate colour, placed properly, with the rest of the face left plain enough that it reads.
The specific case of peach looks. Start from the condition it has to survive — how long, in what light, photographed or not — and work backwards to the formula. Choosing the product first and hoping is what produces most of the failures.

Strong colour needs real pigment to register on deeper skin — a sheer wash that reads as bold on fair skin often disappears entirely.
