Blue makeup looks

A colour look succeeds on commitment. A half-committed colour reads as a mistake rather than as a choice.

Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.

Decide the intensity before the first product goes on, not halfway through.

What actually decides it

One deliberate colour, placed properly, with the rest of the face left plain enough that it reads.

Why blue specifically. Blue is cool and pulls olive skin towards grey, which is the single most common failure with this colour.

Put the warmth back deliberately — a terracotta or warm bronze cheek, and a lip with red rather than pink in it.

On Moroccan skin, in a Moroccan climate

Strong colour needs real pigment to register on deeper skin — a sheer wash that reads as bold on fair skin often disappears entirely.

What it will not do

It is not a daily look for most people, and building it as one usually means diluting it until it stops working.
