Tips for mature skin makeup
Less powder, more preparation, and setting only where the face actually moves.
Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.
How to do it
- Prepare thoroughly — mature skin shows an unprepared base faster than any other type.
- Choose a hydrating or luminous liquid; skip powder foundation entirely.
- Apply thinly and build only where needed.
- Set the centre panel with a fraction of the usual powder, and never bake.
- Cream blush over powder, which sits better on texture.
The Moroccan adjustment
Mature skin is under-represented in almost every portfolio in the industry, and it photographs beautifully when the base is built for it rather than against it.
What goes wrong
Baking. On mature skin powder left to sit settles into every line and ages the face by a decade in photographs.
