Makeup for navy dress
A dress colour changes the face before any makeup is applied, because the fabric reflects onto the skin and shifts how every shade above it reads.
Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.
Judge it against your own colouring in daylight rather than against the photograph that sold it.
What actually decides it
The relationship, not the match. Makeup that repeats the dress colour flattens the whole look; makeup that sits in a related but different register lets both read. The one rule worth holding is that the dress and the metal in the jewellery together set the temperature.
Why navy specifically. Navy is deep and cool, and it flattens an under-defined face.
Definition rather than colour is the answer — a sharper eye, a cleaner lip line.
On Moroccan skin, in a Moroccan climate
On olive and golden skin the risk is a cool dress pulling the face grey. A blue or silver-toned dress wants warmth added back into the cheek and lip, not matched into them.
What it will not do
It cannot fix a dress that does not suit the wearer. Colour makeup adjusts the relationship by a degree, not a category.
