Liquid lipstick vs bullet

Liquid lasts longer and is less comfortable; bullet is comfortable and needs reapplying.

Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.

How to do it

  1. Choose liquid when reapplication will be difficult — a long event, a wedding, a photographed day.
  2. Choose bullet when comfort matters or the day is normal.
  3. Balm the lip well before either, and blot before applying.
  4. With liquid, apply one coat and let it set completely before deciding whether a second is needed.

The Moroccan adjustment

For a fourteen-hour Moroccan wedding, liquid over a fully lined lip is the combination that survives. Expect it to feel dry by hour six and plan a balm for afterwards.

What goes wrong

Layering liquid lipstick over a coat that has only partly set. It lifts the first layer and goes patchy, and it cannot be fixed without removing everything.
