Yellow eyeshadow
Every eyeshadow colour has a skin tone it flatters and one it fights, and the difference is temperature rather than depth.
Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.
Test it under the conditions it has to survive, not the conditions it is easy in.
What actually decides it
Pigment load first, then temperature. A weak formula in the right colour does nothing; a strong formula in the wrong temperature reads as dirt.
Why yellow specifically. Yellow reflects strongly and can pull sallowness forward on olive skin.
Counter it with a cheek that has genuine red in it rather than peach, and keep the eye defined so the face is not lost.
On Moroccan skin, in a Moroccan climate
The constant across this site: warm bronzes, coppers, terracottas and golds read on olive and deeper skin, while cool taupes and greyed browns tend to read as dullness rather than depth.
What it will not do
Colour does not create shape. Placement does that, and a beautiful colour badly placed still reads as a mistake.
