Hydrating makeup tips
Hydration goes underneath, not into the base. Water first, then something light to hold it there.
Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.
How to do it
- Apply a hydrating essence or serum to damp skin.
- Seal with a light cream suited to the climate.
- Choose a serum or luminous base rather than adding oil to a matte one.
- Set only the centre panel.
The Moroccan adjustment
Dehydration is the dominant skin complaint in a Moroccan summer, and it presents as shine — which is why it is so often mistreated as oiliness.
What goes wrong
Mixing oil into a long-wear foundation to make it more hydrating. It breaks the formula and the base slides within the hour.
