How to Apply Glitter

Glitter is pure celebration — perfect for engagements, parties, and festival nights. The only thing standing between you and it is fallout.
Professional glitter application comes down to one principle: glitter needs something sticky to hold onto, applied exactly and only where you want sparkle.
What you'll need
- Cosmetic-grade glitter or a pressed glitter shadow
- A glitter glue or sticky base (a balm or adhesive primer works)
- A flat synthetic brush or fingertip
Step 1: Do your eyes first
Any complexion makeup happens after glitter, so fallout can be swept away without ruining foundation. This one change of order solves most glitter frustration.
Step 2: Lay a sticky base
Paint a thin layer of glitter adhesive only where you want sparkle — usually the centre of the lid. Glitter will map itself exactly to the sticky area and nowhere else.
Step 3: Press, never sweep
Load a flat brush or fingertip and press the glitter straight down onto the base like a stamp. Sweeping motions launch particles everywhere.
Step 4: Layer for intensity
One pressed layer gives a wash of sparkle; a second pressed layer over fresh adhesive gives a full sequin effect. Let each layer set for thirty seconds.
Step 5: Clean up and finish
Roll a piece of tape or a sticky lint roller sheet under the eye to lift strays, then complete your foundation and the rest of the look.
Pro tips from the chair
- Chunky glitter belongs on the lid centre only; fine shimmer can go anywhere including the inner corner and brow bone.
- Always use cosmetic-grade glitter near eyes — craft glitter has sharp edges and is not eye-safe.
- A single chunky glitter placed with a fingertip over a matte smokey eye is the fastest way to make it look editorial.

How do I remove glitter without scrubbing?
Press micellar-soaked cotton against the closed eye for ten seconds and wipe once. Repeat rather than rub — glitter releases with the adhesive.
Will glitter last through a whole event?
