Blush, Bronzer, Contour and Highlight
Where the structure of a face comes from — and why the standard contour shade is wrong for most Moroccan skin.

Structure comes before colour. Sculpting the face in something that behaves like shadow, then adding colour only where it is wanted, is the order that produces a face with depth. Reversing it is why so much makeup looks flat and busy at once.
The category-wide problem here is temperature: cool taupes and greyed browns, the backbone of most imported contour and blush ranges, largely disappear against the deeper half of the Moroccan spectrum.
Contour is not bronzer
They do different jobs and the confusion costs people the result they wanted. Contour creates shadow, so it must be cool-leaning relative to the skin and placed where a shadow would naturally fall. Bronzer adds warmth, so it is warm by definition and goes where the sun would hit.
Using bronzer to contour produces a muddy stripe. Using contour as bronzer produces a face that looks dirty rather than warm.
Placement follows the face in front of you
The fixed pattern — a diagonal under the cheekbone, two stripes down the nose — is a recipe, and it suits the face it was designed on. Read where light already falls on the actual face and exaggerate that instead.
This is why a contour that looks superb on high, wide cheekbones reads as bruising on a rounder face.
Depth, and what disappears
On deeper skin, a contour shade must be genuinely deeper than the skin to register as shadow, and cool greyed browns simply vanish. Blush needs far more pigment than a fair-skin formula carries, or it reads as a grey sheen.
Highlighter is the same problem inverted: a chalky white-based highlighter sits on top of deeper skin as a grey cast. Warm gold, copper and bronze read as light.

What is the difference between contour and bronzer?

Where should blush go on my face?
It depends on your face shape and on what the look is doing. Higher and further back lifts; closer to the apples reads youthful and round. There is no universal placement, which is why the fixed diagrams fail so often.
Which blush colours work on deeper skin?
Deeply pigmented warm tones — brick, terracotta, deep berry, warm plum. The pale peachy pinks that dominate mainstream ranges tend to disappear or read as a grey sheen.
