Powder and Setting
What actually makes makeup last, and the powder mistake that greys deeper skin.

Setting is where a long event is won or lost, and it is also where the most damage is done. Over-setting is more common than under-setting, and it produces exactly the flat, heavy, aged finish people are trying to avoid.
One category-wide warning that matters enormously here: many powders sold as translucent contain white filler that is invisible on fair skin and reads as a grey veil on deeper skin — most visibly under a photographer's flash.
Set where the face moves, nowhere else
The instinct is to set the whole face. That guarantees texture by hour three, because powder sits in every line rather than on top of it.
Set the centre panel — the areas that actually move and shine — and leave the cheeks alone entirely. On dry or mature skin, set even less than that.
Baking, and who it is wrong for
Baking works, and it is the most misapplied technique of the last decade because the demonstrations are filmed on young, non-textured, well-prepared skin.
Powder left to sit on dry or mature skin does not set it — it settles into it, and every line becomes a deposit. Over forty, or on dehydrated skin in a Moroccan summer, the honest answer is to skip it and set a fraction of the product in the two places that move.
Translucent is not always translucent
Test any setting powder under a flash before the day, not in a mirror. White filler is invisible in ordinary light and obvious in a photograph, which is exactly the wrong moment to discover it.
