Matte setting spray
A setting spray with an oil-controlling, shine-reducing finish.
Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca. Part of the Powder & Setting guide.
When to use it
On oily skin and in humidity, where a dewy finish would slide.
On Moroccan skin, in a Moroccan climate
The right choice for coastal Casablanca in summer. Inland, it can read flat and dry.
The rule that runs through every product on this site: check undertone, not just depth. Most Moroccan skin is olive or golden, and a neutral or pink-based product greys within the hour however precisely the depth matches. And for any long event, set in thin successive passes rather than one heavy layer — accumulated product slides in coastal humidity, while product laid down thinly stays.
What it will not do
Dry skin. It will accentuate flaking rather than settling it.
The most common mistake
Using it over a dry base and then adding highlighter to compensate. Choose the finish once, at the start.
