Setting spray

A water-based mist that merges layers and locks makeup in place.

Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca. Part of the Powder & Setting guide.

When to use it

Last, after powder. Powder first creates a stable base by absorbing moisture; the spray then binds the layers and melts visible powder texture.

On Moroccan skin, in a Moroccan climate

Essential for a fourteen-hour Moroccan wedding, applied in thin passes rather than one soaking.

The rule that runs through every product on this site: check undertone, not just depth. Most Moroccan skin is olive or golden, and a neutral or pink-based product greys within the hour however precisely the depth matches. And for any long event, set in thin successive passes rather than one heavy layer — accumulated product slides in coastal humidity, while product laid down thinly stays.

What it will not do

Oil absorption. Research is consistent on this — spray cannot replicate what powder does on an oily T-zone.

The most common mistake

Spraying from too close. Hold it far enough that the mist lands as a veil, not as droplets.
