Banana powder

A yellow-toned setting powder used to brighten and neutralise.

Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca. Part of the Powder & Setting guide.

When to use it

Under the eye and on the centre of the face, where yellow counteracts blue-toned darkness.

On Moroccan skin, in a Moroccan climate

The yellow tone suits olive and golden skin well — better than a white-based translucent, which greys it.

The rule that runs through every product on this site: check undertone, not just depth. Most Moroccan skin is olive or golden, and a neutral or pink-based product greys within the hour however precisely the depth matches. And for any long event, set in thin successive passes rather than one heavy layer — accumulated product slides in coastal humidity, while product laid down thinly stays.

What it will not do

Deep skin, in its standard shade. On deeper skin a pale yellow reads as a grey-yellow cast; the equivalent is a deeper, warmer powder.

The most common mistake

Applying it all over. It is a targeted brightening step, not a full-face powder.
