Oily Skin That Actually Lasts

Oily skin does not need more powder. It needs oil control before the base and a reset system for during the event — adding powder all night is what makes makeup look old.

  • 50 minutes.

When this look is worn

Any long event on skin that breaks through by lunchtime.

The sequence

  1. Eau Thermale Avene Cold Cream 100ml tube
Step 1 — Skip the rich creamAvène Cold Cream

Dry patches only, if at all. Oily skin does not need a full-face rich prep.

  2. Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder jar with the dm logo
Step 2 — Control before, not afterDanessa Myricks Yummy Skin Balm Powder

Press into the T-zone on bare skin. Upsalite absorbs far beyond its own weight without the flat look of a mattifier.

  3. Huda Beauty #FauxFilter foundation bottle held in the hand
    Step 3 — Thin, matte-leaning baseHuda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation

Half a pump, built only where coverage is needed. Sheer everywhere else.

  4. Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer tube
Step 4 — Conceal thinlyHourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer

    Two thin layers, set lightly.

  5. Benefit Hoola matte bronzer 8g box
Step 5 — Matte sculptBenefit Hoola Matte Bronzer

Powder over powder is correct here.

  6. Make Up For Ever Professional Paris compact powder case
Step 6 — Set properly, onceMake Up For Ever Compact Powder

Press and roll on the centre panel. Resist the urge to do it twice.

  7. ONE/SIZE On 'Til Dawn waterproof mattifying setting spray, showing the O/S monogram
    Step 7 — MattifyONE/SIZE On 'Til Dawn

    T-zone.

  8. Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray held with the other setting sprays in the kit
Step 8 — LockUrban Decay All Nighter

    Whole face.

  9. ONE/SIZE Oil Sucker liquid blotting paper spray, 142ml can
Step 9 — Reset, do not re-powderONE/SIZE Oil Sucker

This is the whole point. Spray, wait, do not blot.

What makes this look fail

  • Re-powdering every hour, which is what causes the cakey look by evening.
  • Using a dewy foundation and trying to matte it down afterwards.
  • Skipping moisturiser entirely — dehydrated skin produces more oil, not less.
