Eau Thermale Avène
Cold Cream
The only thing in this kit that is not makeup, and arguably the most important. Nothing sits well on skin that is not prepared.
What it is
Avène Cold Cream is a nourishing, protective cream built on Avène thermal spring water and formulated for very dry, sensitive skin. Cold cream is one of the oldest formulations in cosmetics — an emulsion of oil, water and wax — and it works by rebuilding the hydrolipidic film that dry skin is missing.
In a makeup kit it does two jobs. Before makeup, it is the prep step on dry, flaking or wind-damaged skin, applied thinly and given time to absorb so foundation has something smooth to sit on. After makeup, it is a gentle remover — cold cream dissolves greasepaint and long-wear formulas that micellar water simply will not shift.
It is also mild enough for children's and babies' skin, which is stated on the tube, and that is a useful proxy for how it will behave on a reactive adult face on a high-stress day.

How it is used in this kit
- Thin layer, then wait. Applying foundation onto cream that has not absorbed is the fastest way to make a base slide.
- Use it as a targeted patch treatment, not all over — on the flaking areas around the nose and the outer cheeks, not on an oily T-zone.
- Keep a tube specifically for removal. Cold cream takes off Supracolor and waterproof concealer with far less rubbing than a cleanser, which matters on skin that has been worked on for hours.
- A dab on chapped lips before lipstick will save the look. Dry lips ruin more bridal photographs than any other single thing.
Why it earns its place in Morocco
Moroccan skin takes a beating — Atlantic wind on the coast, dry heat inland, hard water, and a hammam culture that is wonderful for the skin and also strips it. Avène is a pharmacy brand here, which means it is everywhere, it is cheap, and it is the one product on this entire list that any client can walk out and buy this afternoon.

Every stockist worth knowing
Let's clear one thing up before you spend anything: there is no Sephora in Morocco. Not at Morocco Mall, not in Rabat, not in Marrakech — whatever your cousin's friend swears she saw. Anything sold here under that name arrived in somebody's suitcase. What we do have is Yan&One, Faces and Marionnaud if you want to swatch in person, and Zwine, Beauty Corner or Haytam if you want it at your door by Thursday.

Questions
Where do I buy Avène Cold Cream in Morocco?
Any parapharmacie in the country, and a long list of Moroccan online parapharmacies: cotepara.ma, mapara.ma, paraclick.ma, parachezvous.ma, novapara.ma, citymall.ma, universparadiscount.ma and paralagloire.ma. The 40 ml is listed around 80 MAD.
Can it be used under makeup?
Yes, on dry skin, applied thinly and given a few minutes to absorb. On oily or combination skin, keep it to the dry areas only — it is too rich for a full-face prep on oily skin.
Is it good for removing makeup?
Very. Cold cream dissolves greasepaint, waterproof concealer and long-wear foundation with much less friction than a foaming cleanser, which is gentler on skin that has been made up all day.
