What it is

Dior Backstage Face & Body is a water-based, buildable foundation developed for the brand's runway team rather than for a beauty counter. That origin is the whole point: it was designed to be used fast, on a lot of different people, under lights, and to photograph as skin rather than as makeup.

The coverage lands at light-to-medium and layers without going heavy or cakey. The finish is a natural satin — not the flat matte that reads as a mask in photographs, and not the wet dewy finish that slides off in Casablanca humidity. Because it is body-safe, the same bottle takes care of the neck, chest, shoulders and back, which is what makes it indispensable for Moroccan bridal work where a takchita or a caftan leaves a lot of skin visible.

It separates in the bottle. The instruction moulded into the plastic — shake well — is not decorative. Shake it properly every time or the first pump comes out too thin and the last comes out too pigmented.

How it is used in this kit

• Shake hard for a full five seconds before every single use, not just the first.
• Apply with a damp sponge for skin-like sheerness; a dense brush for coverage on texture or pigmentation. The same bottle does both jobs depending on the tool.
• Mix 1 Neutral into 4,5 Warm to build intermediate shades rather than carrying twelve bottles — this is why the neutral end of the range is the one that runs out.
• Take it down the neck and onto the chest before the caftan or dress goes on, not after. It is transfer-resistant once set but not invincible while wet.
• It does not need heavy powder. Set only the centre panel of the face and leave the rest alone or you lose the finish that made you pick it.

Why it earns its place in Morocco

Casablanca weddings run long, run hot and run late, and half of them involve a change of caftan. A foundation that covers face and body from one bottle, holds through a nine-hour night, and does not oxidise orange on warm Moroccan undertones is doing four jobs at once. The 4,5 Warm shade in particular matches a very large share of Moroccan skin straight from the bottle.
