Colour Case Cosmetic Paint Palette — The Essentials

What it is

Made By Mitchell's Colour Case is a palette of highly pigmented cream cosmetic paints intended to be mixed rather than used straight from the pan. The Essentials case holds the neutral and flesh-tone range; a companion Electrics case holds the neons.

This changes how you work. Instead of hunting for a pre-made shade that matches a client, you mix one — a corrector, a custom concealer, a lip colour that matches a specific caftan, a blush that does not exist commercially. For an artist working across a wide range of skin tones, a mixable system removes the problem of the shade you need not being manufactured.

The shades legible on the palette in this kit are caramel, nude, husky, all white, creamsicle, coconut, dusty, oats and unordinary, alongside two deep near-blacks — a flesh-tone spectrum plus the light and dark ends you need to shift anything up or down.

How it is used in this kit

• Mix on a stainless steel palette or the back of the hand, with a spatula. Fingers introduce oil and change how the paint sets.
• Start from the mid-tone and adjust — add all white to lift, the deep shades to drop, caramel to warm. Building up from white wastes product.
• Mixed cream paint must be set with powder. It is a paint, not a foundation.
• Write down the ratio when you hit a match for a regular client. Re-mixing from memory next time is how you lose an hour.

The single most useful thing about a mixable system in Morocco is that it does not depend on a shade being imported.
