What it is

Danessa Myricks is one of the most respected working makeup artists in the industry, and her brand's products tend to solve artist problems rather than chase trends. Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder is the clearest example: a soft, cushiony powder that presses into skin like a balm and blurs texture and pores optically instead of sitting on top of them.

The technology is Upsalite® — a nanoporous magnesium carbonate developed at Uppsala University, with an extraordinarily high surface area. It absorbs oil far beyond its own weight without the flat, dried-out look of a traditional mattifying powder. That is what is printed around the edge of the lid: With Upsalite® Technology.

It can be used as a primer under foundation, as a setting powder over it, or on bare skin on a day when the client wants nothing else.

On the packaging. Read off the lid: the dm Danessa Myricks script logo, with “With Upsalite® Technology” printed in an arc around the lower edge of the rose-gold cap.

How it is used in this kit

• Press, do not sweep. Use a fingertip or a dense sponge and press it into the T-zone; sweeping a brush across it wastes the balm texture entirely.
• As a primer it goes on bare skin before foundation, concentrated on the nose and chin. As a finisher it goes over foundation. Doing both is not overkill on oily skin in August.
• It blurs texture optically — it does not fill lines. On mature skin, keep it away from the under-eye and the smile lines.
• Useful straight onto a groom's face when he does not want to look made up but does want to stop shining in photographs.

Why it earns its place in Morocco

Casablanca in summer is humid and coastal; Marrakech in summer is dry and 44°C. Both destroy a matte base, for opposite reasons. A blurring balm powder holds the T-zone in either climate without the powdery, chalky look that traditional mattifiers give under a photographer's light.
