How to blend eyeshadow perfectly

Small circular motions with a clean fluffy brush, working light to dark, and stopping before you think you should.

Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.

How to do it

  1. Start with the transition shade and build the depth into it, never the reverse.
  2. Use a clean brush for blending, separate from the one carrying colour.
  3. Move in small circles at the edge of the colour, not through the middle of it.
  4. Add depth in thin layers rather than trying to soften a heavy one.

The Moroccan adjustment

Warm shades blend more forgivingly on olive and deeper skin than cool ones, which tend to look muddy at the edge rather than soft.

What goes wrong

Over-blending, which turns a shaped eye into a grey smudge. Stop while the placement is still readable.
