How to fix cakey foundation
Take product off rather than adding more.
Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.
How to do it
- Press a damp sponge over the area to lift and redistribute what is there.
- Mist lightly with setting spray and press again.
- If it is still heavy, remove that section and rebuild it thinly.
- Add a touch of cream product back — blush or balm — to break the flatness.
The Moroccan adjustment
Cakiness in heat is usually a hydration failure underneath rather than too much foundation on top. If it happens repeatedly, the problem is preparation.
What goes wrong
Adding powder. It is the most common instinct and it makes the surface heavier and drier.
