How to prevent mascara smudging
Curl before applying, use waterproof for long or emotional days, and keep the formula off the skin.
Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.
How to do it
- Curl the lash before mascara, never after.
- Wipe the wand before it touches the lash to remove excess.
- Hold a card or spoon behind the lower lash if you are prone to transfer.
- Set the under-eye lightly — a damp under-eye is what mascara transfers onto.
The Moroccan adjustment
At a Moroccan wedding, waterproof is the correct choice: heat and emotion both defeat a standard formula, and the eye is photographed constantly.
What goes wrong
Applying mascara to an uncurled lash and then trying to curl it. That is how lashes break.
