How to make makeup last all day

Thin successive layers at every stage, rather than one heavy layer anywhere.

Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.

How to do it

  1. Prepare the skin properly and let each layer absorb before the next.
  2. Apply base in two thin passes rather than one thick one.
  3. Set only the centre panel — the areas that actually move and shine.
  4. Finish with setting spray in a fine mist held far enough away that it lands as a veil.
  5. Carry blotting papers rather than powder for touch-ups.

The Moroccan adjustment

In coastal humidity accumulated product slides; product laid down thinly stays. Inland the problem inverts — dryness, not slip, is what breaks a base.

What goes wrong

Adding more product to make it last. Thickness is the enemy of longevity, not the route to it.
