Warm eyeshadow
Every eyeshadow colour has a skin tone it flatters and one it fights, and the difference is temperature rather than depth.

What actually decides it
Pigment load first, then temperature. A weak formula in the right colour does nothing; a strong formula in the wrong temperature reads as dirt.
The specific case of warm eyeshadow. Start from the condition it has to survive — how long, in what light, photographed or not — and work backwards to the formula. Choosing the product first and hoping is what produces most of the failures.

What it will not do
