Purple eyeshadow looks
Every eyeshadow colour has a skin tone it flatters and one it fights, and the difference is temperature rather than depth.

What actually decides it
Pigment load first, then temperature. A weak formula in the right colour does nothing; a strong formula in the wrong temperature reads as dirt.
Why purple specifically. Purple and plum are cool and deep, and they can drain a face that is not given enough definition.
Depth answers depth: a defined eye rather than a soft one, and a lip with real saturation.
On Moroccan skin, in a Moroccan climate
The constant across this site: warm bronzes, coppers, terracottas and golds read on olive and deeper skin, while cool taupes and greyed browns tend to read as dullness rather than depth.
What it will not do
Colour does not create shape. Placement does that, and a beautiful colour badly placed still reads as a mistake.
