Yes, and the difference between a good one and none at all is roughly the difference between four hours of wear and twelve.
Does setting spray actually work, and which one do you need?
A setting spray forms a fine flexible film over the finished face. That film stops foundation migrating into lines, stops powder separating, and stops the whole thing looking nine hours old by hour four.
They are not interchangeable. Mattifying sprays control shine and flatten finish. Natural-finish sprays lock without changing the look. No-transfer sprays stop product coming off on fabric. A long night wants more than one.
How to use it, step by step
- Hold it a full arm's length away — about 20 cm — and spray in an X then a T.
- Let it dry undisturbed. Fanning or touching it while wet defeats the film.
- Mattifying spray on the T-zone only, then a natural-finish spray over the whole face to take the powdery edge off.
- The no-transfer spray goes absolutely last, and it goes on the neck and décolleté too — that is where transfer onto a white caftan actually happens.
- A light mist on bare primed skin before foundation helps it grip.
The mistakes that cost you
- Spraying too close, which makes droplets and disturbs the base.
- Using a mattifying spray all over dry skin.
- Expecting spray alone to control oil — powder absorbs, spray locks.
