Because makeup sits on skin, and skin that is dry, oily or unbalanced will move the makeup around all day.
What is skin prep and why does makeup fail without it?
Prep is not a product, it is a step. On dry skin it means putting moisture back so foundation does not cling to flaking. On oily skin it means controlling the oil before the base goes down, not after it has already broken through.
The single most skipped part of prep is waiting. Foundation applied over cream that has not absorbed will slide, and no setting spray will save it.
How to use it, step by step
- Cleanse, then assess. Dry patches, oily zones, and texture all want different treatment.
- Thin layer of cream on the dry areas only — around the nose, the outer cheeks.
- Wait three minutes. Genuinely wait.
- On oily skin, press a blurring balm powder into the T-zone before foundation.
- A dab of cream on chapped lips before lipstick. Dry lips ruin more bridal photographs than any other single thing.
- Only then start the base.
