Soft to full.

Vintage Makeup

Period-specific makeup — a defined lip, shaped brow and clean skin.

Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca.

Where it sits

Soft to full.

Soft glam is not simply less full glam — the intent is different. It aims at polished; full glam aims at transformed and camera-ready. Deciding which is wanted before the first product goes on saves the whole session.

The technique it depends on

Choosing one decade and staying inside it.

On Moroccan skin, in a Moroccan climate

Vintage brow shapes usually mean removing from a dense brow, which does not reliably grow back. Draw rather than pluck.

In coastal humidity, set in thin successive passes rather than one heavy layer. Accumulated product slides; product laid down thinly stays. Inland the problem inverts and dryness decides instead.

When it is the wrong choice

Anything contemporary.
