Concealer guide
How to choose, place and set concealer without creasing it.
Written by Lamyaa Aissi, professional makeup artist, Casablanca. Part of the Concealer & Colour Correction guide.
When to use it
For under-eyes, blemishes and the small corrections foundation should not be asked to make.
On Moroccan skin, in a Moroccan climate
Correct first with peach or orange against blue-toned darkness — deeper peach on deeper skin — then the smallest possible amount of concealer, then stop.
The rule that runs through every product on this site: check undertone, not just depth. Most Moroccan skin is olive or golden, and a neutral or pink-based product greys within the hour however precisely the depth matches. And for any long event, set in thin successive passes rather than one heavy layer — accumulated product slides in coastal humidity, while product laid down thinly stays.
What it will not do
Structural shadow. Concealer cannot fill a hollow; light placement and a lighter shade can only soften it.
The most common mistake
Setting with a generous layer of powder. Press a small amount rather than sweeping, or you guarantee the crease you meant to prevent.
